ATC Shades was established to offer the best value solution for superior quality, service, and prompt installation of FAA compliant Mylar window shades for air traffic control towers. As an offshoot of Wolen LLC, a major provider of FAA required equipment in the Federal Contract Tower Program, the ATC Shades team has been involved with custom shade installations since 2005. With more than 30 successful Control Tower installations, ATC Shades have always taken pride in quality installations that meet the specific needs of air traffic controllers.
Our goal at ATC Shades is to provide a finished product that exceeds the FAA specifications and surpasses operational expectations. This is accomplished through years of operating in the control tower environment, and implementing the best methods for measurement, fabrication, and installation of cab shades. We have a team approach that establishes a familiarity with our clients. Our team is cross trained in all aspects of the process. Every one of our technicians is well versed in conducting site inspections for measuring, building the shades in our modern climate controlled facility, and ultimately, completing the installation in a timely manner.

The main component required by the FAA for ATCT Window Shade Replacement is the film. ATC Shades transparent Mylar film, ATCS#72 SR, is 5 mils in total thickness, scratch resistant, and incorporates the proper tint, glare reduction, UV transmission levels and heat blocking requirements. Currently, we are in the process of creating a film that will exceed 84 inches in width. This will eliminate the need for seams in most tower applications. For shades needing seams, the seam line is raised from an industry standard of 70 inches above the sill to 82 inches, adding a full foot of clear sightline.
Also, the increased demand for a secondary layer of shades, whether it be a full or partial set (the more critical windows facing the runways), is easily accomplished through our Double Shade Bracket System. These brackets allow two shades to be mounted in the space usually accommodating only one shade, such as in a narrow shade pocket. Once manufactured and tested, we will be showcasing these products on our website.
